Rapid prototyping is an integral part of any modern product development process. Our efforts at the lab is to explore avenues to accentuate the experience by adding mixed reality dimensions to conventional additive manufacturing. This makes experiential learning a part of the design process and also possibly reduces unnecessary design iterations. It also opens interesting avenues for commercial industrial tool designs.
I am currently working on increasing my understanding of haptics. The first problem is to explore its usage in substituted prototyping. Secondly, to design a simple haptics interface for 3D doodlers to allow real-time feedback of spatial orientation to the user. This would solve the notoriously tedious aspect of maintaining steady hand-position when drawing wireframe structures.
